Have you ever really taken a close look at what ingredients are actually being used in your dog's food? If not, then for your dog’s sake, you need to take a closer look. I was truly shocked when I saw the ingredient list in what I thought was “best on the market” food for my best buddy.

It seems that pet food manufacturers don't always have your dog's best interest in mind. As a matter of fact, in my opinion, it would appear that they are more interested in in making huge money. Current pet food regulations actually allow manufacturers to use inferior (and of course cheaper) ingredients that you would never think of giving to your dog.

Here are a few examples of what may be in your dog’s food:

Feet

Bones

Intestines

Preservatives

Hard to digest grains (gluten, soy, corn, wheat)

Among others.

The next time you go to the market to buy food for your favorite pet, be sure to read the ingredients very carefully.

One of the most unbelieveable things I’ve heard … According to Howard F. Lyman, author of “The Mad Cowboy”… “The City of Los Angeles alone, for example, sends some 200 tons of euthanized cats and dogs to a rendering plant every month.”

The recent dog food recall has motivated me too closely watch what food I’m feeding my dog. I have discovered the only way to be sure what my dog is eating is healthy and nutritious, is to make my own.

A Homemade Dog Food Recipe

A great meal for your dog would include foods that contain eggs, real meats with a low fat content such as white chicken meat, and low fat dairy products such as yogurt and cottage cheese. These foods are high in moisture and quality protein that dogs need for good health.

Here’s a quick homemade meal that you can provide for your dog:

Cottage cheese
Egg
Chicken (Baked, steam fish, or canned fish)
Cooked Oatmeal
Canned Pumpkin (plain, no spice type)

The cottage cheese, egg and chicken should make up to about fifty percent of the meal, oatmeal thirty percent, and twenty percent pumpkin. Barley and whole wheat bread can be used as substitute for the carbohydrates. This recipe only takes a few minutes to prepare and your dog will love it!
